Lionel Messi marked his final appearance for Argentina with a goal as the world champions defeated Benin 3-0 in a friendly at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.
Messi first set up Nicolás Otamendi for Argentina’s opening goal before providing the assist for Nico Paz to double the lead.
The 39-year-old captain then got on the scoresheet himself, converting a penalty in the 70th minute to complete the 3-0 victory.
The match brought an emotional end to Messi’s international career after more than two decades with Argentina.
He finishes as the country’s record goalscorer and most-capped player, having led Argentina to the 2022 World Cup and two Copa América titles.
