Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has prohibited taking, collecting and disseminating photographs, videos, sketches and other visual information of sensitive installations and security-related facilities at the port without prior permission.

The authority issued the directive in a press release signed by its Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim on Tuesday, October 6.

According to the notice, prior approval is required to publish or circulate information related to the port’s security arrangements, restricted areas, surveillance capabilities, facility layouts, communication systems, vessel and cargo handling operations and other sensitive infrastructure on social media, online platforms or through the mass media.

The CPA has particularly warned against unauthorised activities around Key Point Installations (KPIs), restricted areas and security facilities.

The authority said Chattogram Port is the country’s principal maritime gateway and a vital hub for the national economy, import-export activities and international trade.

Its security and sensitive infrastructure are directly linked to national interests.

Under Section 12 of the Chattogram Port Authority Act, 2022, all areas and facilities within the port boundary are considered restricted areas to ensure smooth operations and regulate public access.

The authority also referred to the Official Secrets Act, 1923, under which unauthorised possession, disclosure or dissemination of sensitive information, images, designs or data related to state security and interests may constitute a punishable offence.

The CPA warned that anyone whose unauthorised publication or dissemination of information compromises port security could face action under applicable laws, security regulations and existing directives.

It urged all port users and concerned parties to strictly comply with the security guidelines.
