16 JnU students to receive PM’s Gold Medal

DHAKA: Sixteen students of Jagannath University (JnU) have been finally selected for the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal for 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Of them, six students have been selected for 2019, five for 2020 and five for 2021. The information was disclosed in a notice issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday (October 5).

The six students selected for the 2019 Prime Minister’s Gold Medal are Md Sagar Islam of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems, Md Ismail Hossain Ridoy of the Department of Statistics, Suraiya Binte Rafiq of the Department of Islamic Studies, Mitu Rani Roy of the Department of Economics, Mahmuda Amir Eva of the Department of Law, and Sharmin Akter of the Department of Microbiology. All of them were students of the 2014–15 academic session.

The five students selected for 2020 are Anuradha Pal of the Institute of Education and Research (IER), Md Nayan Hossain of the Department of Marketing, Taslima Akter of the Department of Mathematics, Mahabubul Alam of the Department of Public Administration, and Md Anik Mia of the Department of Botany. They were students of the 2015–16 academic session.

For 2021, the selected students are Runa Akter of the Department of English, Rehana Akter Tamim of the Department of Statistics, Laila Nigar Tanvi of the Department of Anthropology, Hamida Sultana of the Department of Law, and Mousumi Akter Mitu of the Department of Pharmacy. They were students of the 2017–18 academic session.

The Prime Minister’s Gold Medal is a prestigious award introduced by the UGC to recognise outstanding academic performance and encourage talented students to pursue higher education. The award was introduced in 2005 and is given to students who achieve the highest marks or CGPA and secure first place in their respective faculties at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.

A total of 469 students from different universities across the country have been selected for the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal for 2019, 2020 and 2021.
