Around 3.5 million more children will be brought under the measles-rubella vaccination programme across Bangladesh over the next month, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare MA Muhith said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a measles-rubella vaccination campaign programme, the state minister said around 20 million children had already been vaccinated under the government’s ongoing efforts to contain the measles outbreak.
He said the government was continuing the campaign to ensure that no child is left out of vaccination coverage.
The latest drive is being carried out with support from international and local partners, including UNICEF, Gavi, the US government and the Dhaka North City Corporation.
The state minister said preventive healthcare and vaccination programmes were being given priority as part of efforts to strengthen Bangladesh’s health system.
He expressed hope that the additional 3.5 million children would be vaccinated within the next month through the mop-up campaign.
The government launched an intensified measles-rubella vaccination campaign in September, targeting children who had been missed in earlier vaccination drives.
