The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Youth and Sports has recommended expanding training opportunities for unemployed young people and organising regular sports events at the upazila level across the country to keep youths away from drugs and engage them in sports and employment-oriented activities.

The recommendation was made at the committee’s first meeting of the 13th National Parliament, held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by committee Chairman Md Abul Khair Bhuiyan. State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque attended as a special invitee.

The committee also recommended extensive publicity through electronic, print and online media to promote the ‘Notun Kuri Sports 2026-27 (Season 2)’ programme.

It stressed accountability and integrity in implementing development projects and called for strict monitoring and quality control to prevent contractors from using substandard construction materials.

The committee recommended that lawmakers take necessary initiatives in their respective constituencies to build one playground in every union in line with the government’s election manifesto. It also called for initiatives to gradually establish biogas plants across the country.

The committee placed special emphasis on ensuring the safety of female athletes and preventing all forms of harassment, recommending a “zero tolerance” policy in this regard.
