Eight more people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 44 in the first week of October.
During the same period, 1,860 new dengue cases were reported, bringing the number of infections in October to 12,596, according to a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) press release issued on Wednesday.
Of the new cases reported in the 24 hours until 8am, 200 were in Barishal division, 216 in Chattogram, 347 in Dhaka division outside the city corporations, 212 in Dhaka North City Corporation and 171 in Dhaka South.
Khulna recorded 376 cases, followed by Rajshahi with 176, Mymensingh 110, Rangpur 38 and Sylhet 14.
So far this year, dengue has claimed 289 lives across the country, while 92,216 patients have been hospitalised.
Currently, 5,776 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals, while 86,151 patients have been discharged this year.
