Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government wants to build a Bangladesh where religion, race or identity does not stand in the way of anyone’s rights and opportunities.
“We want to build a Bangladesh where religion, race and identity do not become barriers to people’s rights and opportunities. Ensuring equal rights and dignity for every citizen is our goal,” he said.
The prime minister made the remarks on Wednesday during an exchange of views with representatives of the Hindu and Buddhist communities at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat.
He said the government was working for the welfare of every citizen regardless of religion, race, profession, class or community.
Representatives of the Hindu and Buddhist communities thanked the prime minister for increasing government support for their religious festivals.
Later, Tarique handed over Tk 5 crore to the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust for Durga Puja and Tk 3 crore to the Buddhist community for its religious festival.
