21,200 litres of smuggled crude soybean oil seized in Bhola

Police have seized 21,200 litres of smuggled crude soybean oil and two covered vans in separate raids in Bhola, arresting three people.

The raids were conducted by Bhola Sadar Model Police Station and Lalmohan Police Station on Wednesday.

Police said officers from the Ilisha Investigation Centre of Bhola Sadar Model Police Station raided an area near Bottola Bazar in East Ilisha Union and arrested Md Omar Faruk, Md Hasan and Salauddin Sikder.

They seized 12,200 litres of crude soybean oil stored in 61 plastic barrels, worth an estimated Tk24.4 lakh. An Ashok Leyland covered van allegedly used to transport the oil was also seized. A case was filed with Bhola Sadar Model Police Station.

In a separate operation, Lalmohan police seized another covered van and 50 barrels of crude soybean oil from a warehouse near Khan Saheb Road in Ward No. 7 of Lalmohan Union.

Of the 50 barrels, 22 were found in the covered van and 28 in the warehouse. With each barrel containing around 180 litres, the total volume was about 9,000 litres. Police estimated the value of the seized oil at Tk7.5 lakh. A driving licence was also recovered.

A case was filed with Lalmohan Police Station against Md Helal, 34, Md Nazim Uddin, 30, and four to five unidentified people, who are currently absconding.

Bhola Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shahidullah Kawsar said police operations against smuggling and other illegal activities would continue.
