President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for preserving the accurate history of the Liberation War and ensuring proper recognition, honour and dignity for genuine freedom fighters.
He made the remarks on Thursday during a courtesy meeting with a 12-member delegation of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council, led by its convenor, valiant freedom fighter Naim Jahangir, at Bangabhaban.
The president said the nation remembers with deep respect the sacrifices and contributions of freedom fighters to the country.
He stressed that it is the state’s responsibility to protect their honour and dignity and ensure a proper list and recognition of genuine freedom fighters.
He also urged everyone to remain responsible and cautious in preserving and presenting the history of the Liberation War so that no confusion or ambiguity is created.
The president emphasised giving the highest priority to national interests and continuing the country’s democratic progress.
He also called for upholding Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty and the historical values of the Liberation War.
During the meeting, the delegation raised various demands and welfare-related issues concerning freedom fighters.
They also announced plans to organise a peaceful rally on their own initiative.
The president heard their concerns and assured them that the issues raised regarding the welfare, honour and dignity of freedom fighters would be duly considered.
