Indonesian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Anis Matta met State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Thursday and discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, connectivity, climate change, education and other areas of mutual interest.
During the meeting at her office, Shama Obaed highlighted the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Indonesia and stressed the need to expand bilateral trade.
She urged Indonesia to increase imports of Bangladeshi products and called for greater cooperation between women entrepreneurs of the two countries.
Welcoming the proposals, Anis Matta expressed Indonesia’s interest in working closely with Bangladesh to strengthen economic cooperation beyond traditional business engagements.

On connectivity, the Indonesian vice minister encouraged exploring the possibility of establishing a direct air link between Dhaka and Jakarta.
He also expressed Indonesia’s interest in exploring Dhaka as a potential transit hub for Indonesian passengers travelling to Saudi Arabia.
Shama Obaed also called for enhanced bilateral cooperation in environment and climate change, artificial intelligence and cultural exchanges.
To deepen cooperation in education and training, she encouraged Indonesian students to explore educational opportunities in Bangladesh, particularly at the country’s medical universities.
Anis Matta is visiting Bangladesh on an official trip and is scheduled to leave Dhaka on Thursday.
