Rain likely in all 8 divisions of Bangladesh

DHAKA: Rain and thundershowers are likely in all eight divisions of Bangladesh, with temporary gusty winds and light to moderate rain in places. Some areas may also experience moderately heavy rainfall, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Meteorologist Dr Md Omar Faruk provided the information in a weather forecast valid until 6pm on Saturday (October 10).

According to the forecast, rain or thundershowers may occur in some areas of Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions over the next 24 hours. A few places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may also experience rainfall. Moderately heavy rain is possible in some parts of the country during this period.

The forecast for the following 24 hours, from 6pm on Saturday, also predicts rain across all eight divisions. Temporary gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Day and night temperatures may rise slightly across the country during this period.

The meteorological department also said the southwest monsoon had already withdrawn from Bangladesh. A low-pressure area may form over the southeast Bay of Bengal by October 13.

Meanwhile, Satkhira recorded the country’s highest rainfall of 45 millimetres in the past 24 hours. Rangamati and Kutubdia recorded the highest maximum temperature at 33.5 degrees Celsius during the same period, while Tetulia recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 20.5 degrees Celsius.
