Abhijit Deepke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), launched a scathing attack on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi shortly after being released from detention, calling him a “disgrace to India”.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday morning, Abhijit wrote, “Modi is a disgrace to India as prime minister. The country has never seen such a coward and rioter before.”

He made the remarks after being released by a court order following nearly 24 hours in detention in Delhi.

The CJP had planned a protest in Delhi on Saturday demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police detained several protesters in a crackdown on the planned demonstration.

The party has announced that it will continue its protests on Sunday. It is also scheduled to hold a press conference at 2pm.

Abhijit Deepke, CJP co-convener Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were released on Sunday on the orders of an executive magistrate in Delhi, nearly 24 hours after being detained by police.

According to the party’s head of legal affairs, their release came with a condition that they must not engage in any activity that could disturb public order over the next year.
