Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel attempted to push 10 people into Bangladesh through the Meherpur and Kushtia borders, but both attempts were foiled by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members and local residents.

The attempts were made on Sunday, with six people at the Rangmahal border in Gangni upazila of Meherpur and four at the Daulatpur border in Kushtia.

At the Rangmahal border in Gangni, the BSF attempted to push six people, including four women and two men, into Bangladesh. They remained at the zero line for nearly six hours before the BSF took them back.

Several local residents said the BSF opened a gate in the barbed-wire fence around 4am on Sunday and pushed the four women and two men towards Bangladesh.

A BGB patrol team on border duty noticed the incident. BGB members, with assistance from local villagers, thwarted the attempt. However, the BSF took the six people back at around 10am.

Meanwhile, the BGB has foiled another attempt by the BSF to push four people into Bangladesh through the Daulatpur border in Kushtia.

In a press release issued at 11am on Sunday (October 11), the Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) said the incident occurred around 7:45am near the Thotapara border area of Daulatpur upazila.

According to the release, members of the BSF’s 146th Battalion, stationed at the Uday Kishan camp, attempted to push the four people into Bangladesh from a location about 50 yards inside Indian territory near border pillar 153/9-S.

The attempt was thwarted by the BGB’s alert presence and immediate preventive action. The four individuals returned to Indian territory around 8am in the face of the BGB’s firm stance.

The group comprised two men and two women. Their identities were not immediately known.

The 47 BGB battalion said it remained vigilant against illegal infiltration and violations of border regulations, adding that its personnel were performing their duties professionally and responsibly to ensure border security and maintain law and order in the area.
