A lighter vessel carrying stone from Chattogram to Dhaka sank in the Karnaphuli River in the early hours of Tuesday after being hit by another ship.
The vessel, MV Bay Harbour-2, went down between Buoys 2 and 3 in the Karnaphuli Channel at around 3:30am.
Following the incident, Coast Guard personnel launched a rescue operation, according to the force’s public relations wing.
Eight crew members were rescued immediately after the collision, while four more were later rescued alive, bringing the total number of survivors to 12.
The vessel is owned by Bay Harbour Limited, said Chittagong Port Secretary Md Nasir Uddin.
