The government has taken steps to relocate the Bangladesh Secretariat from Abdul Gani Road to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital.
A new Secretariat complex is proposed to be built on the former International Trade Fair grounds.
The estimated cost of the project is Tk 3,409 crore, but it is yet to receive formal approval.
The government aims to inaugurate the project in December, subject to the completion of preparations and necessary approvals.
The existing Secretariat premises may be used to accommodate lower courts currently located in Old Dhaka.
The Public Works Department has prepared a preliminary layout for the proposed complex, while the project is being considered for inclusion in the Annual Development Programme for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
