A court in Dhaka on Monday ordered that Serniabat Moinuddin Ahmed Abdullah, son of former lawmaker Abul Hasanat Abdullah, be shown arrested in a murder case over the death of Firoz Talukder Palash during the anti-discrimination student movement in Mirpur.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order following an application by the investigation officer.

Sub-Inspector Azim Ahmed of Mirpur Model Police Station, who is investigating the case, sought the order, stating that showing Moinuddin arrested was necessary for a fair and impartial investigation. The court granted the application after a hearing.

SI Rafiqul Islam of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s prosecution department confirmed the development.

According to the case statement, Palash was injured by gunfire from a helicopter near the Mirpur-10 roundabout on July 19, 2024, during the student movement. He was later taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His wife subsequently filed a murder case with Mirpur Model Police Station.

Police sought to show Moinuddin arrested in the case based on information gathered during the investigation into his alleged involvement.

Moinuddin was previously arrested by the Detective Branch of police from the Gulshan-2 area of Dhaka on October 26, 2024. He has remained in jail since then.
