A fire that broke out at Manzur Khan Plaza in Chawkbazar, Old Dhaka, was brought under control after nearly 12 hours of firefighting efforts.
The blaze erupted at a shop on an upper floor of the seven-storey building in Chhoto Katra on Monday afternoon, October 12.
Firefighters faced difficulties in containing the fire due to narrow lanes, heavy smoke, water shortages and locked warehouses inside the building.
The number of firefighting units was gradually increased to 10 as the operation continued late into the night.
The fire service said the blaze remained confined to the affected building during the initial stages of the operation.
The cause of the fire and the extent of property damage could not be immediately confirmed. Details of any casualties were also unavailable in the initial reports.
