Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has said the government plans to hold supplementary examinations within 15 days of the publication of SSC results for students who fail in up to two subjects.

Based on the results of the retake examinations, authorities will decide whether the students can continue in the general education system or will be shifted to technical and vocational education, he said.

The minister made the remarks on Tuesday (October 13) at the inauguration of an orientation training course for 49th BCS (General Education) cadre officers at the auditorium of the Rural Development Academy in Bogura.

Milon said the country was facing a decline in moral values and that efforts must begin with one generation to prevent the problem from continuing. He said Prime Minister had emphasised culture, sports, moral education and the concept of “Learning with Happiness” from Class IV.

Addressing the issue of students dropping out or failing examinations, the minister said those who had passed were already moving forward, but greater attention must be given to students who had failed or dropped out. The government was considering ways to revitalise and reintegrate them into education, he added.

“Under our new plan for the SSC examinations, students who fail in a maximum of two subjects will be allowed to sit for another examination within 15 days of the publication of results. We will not allow this legacy of failure to continue year after year,” he said.

The results of the retake examinations will determine whether students can remain in the general education system. Those who fail to meet the requirements will be transferred to technical or vocational education, he added.

The orientation programme was organised by the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) and chaired by Dr Sardar Keramat Ali, acting secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division.

Special guests included Bogura-6 lawmaker Rezaul Karim Badsha, Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, NAEM Director General Professor Dr Wasim Md Mezbahul Haque, and acting Director General of the Rural Development Academy in Bogura Dr Md Abdul Majid Pramanik.
