DHAKA: BNP Acting Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the death of BNP Commerce Affairs Secretary and former lawmaker Salahuddin Ahmed has created a void in politics, describing him as a strong organiser and politician who made significant contributions to the development of his constituency.
Salahuddin Ahmed died while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital on Tuesday (October 13).
After his body was taken from the hospital to his residence in Shyampur, Rizvi visited the house to pay his last respects and offer condolences to the bereaved family. He made the remarks while speaking to journalists there.
“It is unfortunate that a void has been created in politics. A strong organiser and politician like him was repeatedly elected as a public representative from this area. He was vocal in parliament about the development of his constituency. He made significant contributions to the development of the area, including the construction of schools, colleges, madrasas and roads,” Rizvi said.
Expressing grief over Salahuddin Ahmed’s death, Rizvi said, “He had not even reached a very advanced age. After suffering for a long time under the repression of an autocratic regime, he has now departed this world. I pray for the salvation of his soul and ask Allah to grant him Jannah. I extend my condolences to his bereaved family.”
BNP Chairman’s Adviser and Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam also expressed grief, saying Salahuddin Ahmed’s death was a loss not only for his family but also for the BNP.
“I urge his supporters and family members to remain patient. We will all pray that Allah grants him Jannah,” he said.
Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists from various local levels, including Dhaka South City BNP Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, visited the residence to pay their final respects.
