Former Bangladesh pace bowling coach Allan Donald has been appointed bowling coach of Joburg Super Kings for the 2027 season of South Africa’s SA20 league.

The former South African fast bowler will work alongside head coach Albie Morkel, who took charge after the franchise parted ways with Stephen Fleming.

Donald’s appointment will see Eric Simons leave the coaching staff. Simons is set to join Fleming’s coaching team in England.

Since retiring from cricket in 2004, Donald has built an extensive coaching career, working with the national teams of South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. He has also coached several domestic and franchise sides, including Warwickshire, Kent, Mountaineers, Pune Warriors India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Donald earned considerable praise during his stint with Bangladesh, where he played a key role in developing the country’s fast bowlers.

Joburg Super Kings have also appointed former wicketkeeper-batter Pierre de Bruyn as fielding coach and Ivan Speechly as team physiotherapist. De Bruyn previously worked with Morkel at the Titans and Namibia, while Speechly replaces Tommy Simsek.

The fifth edition of the SA20 will begin on January 17, 2027, in Gqeberha and conclude with the final in Cape Town on February 21. Sunrisers Eastern Cape will face Pretoria Capitals in the opening match at St George’s Park, a repeat of the 2026 final.
