The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has directed all secondary and higher secondary educational institutions across the country to continue awareness programmes against drug abuse, juvenile gangs, eve-teasing and disorderly celebrations in the name of “Rag Day”.

The institutions have also been asked to raise awareness among students about the importance of concentrating on their studies at night.

In an office order published on the DSHE website on Tuesday, regional directors and deputy directors were instructed to monitor implementation of the measures and submit progress reports by October 26.

According to the directive, educational institutions must screen anti-drug documentaries and theme songs produced by the Department of Narcotics Control and promote social movements against drug abuse.

They have also been asked to take effective measures to prevent eve-teasing and disorderly activities associated with Rag Day.

The DSHE further instructed institutions to organise regular parents’ meetings, discussions and seminars, and distribute leaflets to encourage students to focus on their studies at night.

Regional offices must compile progress reports in a prescribed format, including the total number of institutions in their respective districts, the rate of anti-drug documentary screenings, the formation of anti-eve-teasing committees, parents’ meetings and other awareness activities.

The reports must be submitted by email within the stipulated deadline.
