Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan on Friday said Bangladesh is now undergoing a process of “state rebuilding” after a long democratic struggle, adding that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working tirelessly toward that goal.
He made the remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of a month-long tree plantation programme marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of former President Ziaur Rahman at the University of Barishal.
Swapan said tree plantation is not merely a ceremonial activity but a national responsibility, urging people to ensure proper care of planted saplings to help build a greener and more sustainable Bangladesh.
He also praised the prime minister, describing him as a statesman committed to the country’s development and a worthy successor to Ziaur Rahman.
The programme, organised by the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, was chaired by University of Barishal Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Mamun or Rashid.
Among others, Prof Dr Farhad Halim Donar and Barishal City Corporation Administrator Advocate Bilkis Akter Jahan Shirin attended as special guests.
