Three teenage schoolgirls from Lama upazila in Bandarban have been missing for three days, with their families and police still unable to establish their whereabouts.
The girls’ families filed a complaint with Lama Police Station, Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kaisar Hamid said.
Two of the missing girls are class seven students, while the third studies in class nine at Yangchha High School.
According to their families, the class nine student left home on October 10, saying she would collect her registration card for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination. The other two girls also left home later. Their families have been unable to contact them since.
School headteacher Mofiz Uddin said the three students were last present at school on September 30 and had not attended classes since then.
Police have launched a search for the girls. Preliminary information suggests they may have gone to Chakaria, but investigators have yet to confirm where they are staying.
“Police are working to find the missing students and determine the circumstances surrounding their disappearance,” OC Kaisar said.
Manzur Alam, acting Lama upazila nirbahi officer and administrator of Fashiakhali Union Parishad, said he had heard about the incident and that necessary steps would be taken after the matter was investigated.
