Meta is introducing a new feature that will allow Facebook users to customise their feeds more easily by controlling the types of content they want to see and those they prefer to avoid.
The new tool, called “Your Algorithm”, will be accessible from selected posts or Reels in users’ feeds, allowing them to adjust their content preferences.
Users will be able to add preferred topics to a list and mark unwanted subjects as “Not Interested”. They can also describe in their own words the types of content they want to see through a dedicated text box.
Meta is expanding the feature to Facebook after introducing similar functionality on Instagram earlier this year.
According to Meta, the tool uses large language model (LLM) technology to better understand users’ written instructions. Rather than relying solely on conventional engagement signals, such as likes and clicks, the system is designed to interpret the intent and context behind users’ preferences.
The update aims to give users greater control over their feeds amid growing frustration with irrelevant posts, misleading AI-generated images and other unwanted content.
However, it remains to be seen how effectively the new system will reduce unwanted material and improve the overall user experience.
Meta is expected to roll out the feature to users worldwide, giving them more direct control over the content recommended on Facebook.
