A young man was allegedly beaten to death following a minor dispute in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district on Wednesday night.
The victim, identified as Emdadul Haque, was the son of Rezaul Haque of Naodabandabil village in the upazila.
Police said local residents detained the prime accused, Nais Khandaker, and handed him over to them following the incident.
The incident occurred around 10:30pm on Wednesday, October 14, near the new bus terminal in Alamdanga municipality.
According to eyewitnesses, Emdadul was sitting at a tea stall when an argument broke out between him and Nais over a seemingly trivial matter. At one point, Nais allegedly attempted to attack him, prompting Emdadul to flee.
The victim reportedly fell a short distance away, after which the accused allegedly struck him forcefully on the head with a stick, leaving him seriously injured and bleeding.
He was being taken to Kushtia Sadar Hospital for treatment when he died on the way.
Alamdanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rakibul Islam confirmed the detention of the prime accused.
He said police were completing the inquest procedures before sending the body to the Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Further legal action is underway, police said.
