Bangladesh and China have emphasised strengthening their economic relations, expressing expectations of taking bilateral ties to a new height.

The emphasis came from Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obaed Islam and Chinese Embassy in Dhaka Charge d’Affaires Dr Liu Yuyin at a celebration marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, organised by the Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI).

The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka disclosed the information on Thursday.

Shama Obaed said China’s achievements in economic and social development over the past 77 years offered valuable lessons for developing countries.

“Bangladesh has a strong desire to further strengthen practical cooperation with China and elevate the existing friendly relations to a new height,” she said.

Liu Yuyin said China-Bangladesh relations had reached a new level under the strategic guidance of the two countries’ top leaders.

The joint initiative to build a “Bangladesh-China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era” had injected fresh momentum into the long-term development of bilateral relations, he said.

Describing China as a trusted friend and development partner of Bangladesh, Liu said Beijing was ready to work with Dhaka to deepen practical cooperation and elevate economic and trade relations to a new height.
