Rajshahi: Eight pieces of luggage belonging to Rajshahi Division cricketers participating in the National Cricket League were stolen from a covered van while being transported from Dhaka to Rajshahi.
Most of the belongings have since been recovered through the efforts of Rajshahi District Police and the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) security department.
Cricketers usually travel between cities by air, while their kit bags are transported separately in covered vans. The players arrived in Rajshahi on Tuesday for the next round of matches, and their kit bags were dispatched that night. The team officials discovered the eight missing pieces of luggage while receiving the bags the following day.
The stolen luggage belonged to spin-bowling all-rounder SM Meherab Hasan, pacer Mohor Sheikh Antar, pacer Ali Mohammad Walid and team attendant Abdul Qader. Meherab immediately filed a general diary (GD) with Rajpara Police Station.
In his complaint, Meherab said his luggage contained clothes, a passport, an iPhone, Tk 300,000 in cash, $300 and some electronic items. Mohor’s bag also contained valuable electronic equipment, while Qader’s luggage held spikes and other playing gear.
With assistance from Rajshahi and Natore district police, several bags and belongings were recovered. Police later handed the recovered items over to the cricketers.
