Bangladesh Police has applied for Interpol Red Notices against 41 people, including alleged criminals and members of organised crime networks who fled the country after August 5, 2024.
Red Notices have been issued against seven of them, according to a Home Ministry report.
The information was presented at the fifth meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Home Ministry at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.
The meeting, chaired by committee chairman Zainul Abedin, reviewed the country’s overall law and order situation and progress in crime prevention.
According to the report, police are using Interpol Red Notices and its global databases to help track down and arrest international criminals and members of organised criminal networks who have fled Bangladesh.
However, the report did not identify the seven people against whom Red Notices have been issued or provide updates on the remaining 34 applications.
The report also highlighted ongoing cooperation with other countries through mutual legal assistance and information-sharing mechanisms to combat transnational crime.
Efforts are also underway to strengthen coordination among agencies to prevent human trafficking, money laundering and terrorist financing.
The meeting discussed measures to tackle drug abuse, extortion, mugging, juvenile gangs and organised crime across the country.
It also reviewed government initiatives to combat cybercrime, including a proposal to establish a separate cyber police unit.
The committee recommended that law enforcement agencies adopt modern technologies to improve crime prevention and control.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and other ministers, lawmakers and parliamentary officials attended the meeting.
