India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has returned two Bangladeshi police personnel detained near the border in Cumilla following a flag meeting with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The handover took place on Friday after a battalion commander-level meeting between the BGB’s Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) and the BSF’s 49th Battalion near border pillar No. 2059 in Shashidal, Brahmanpara upazila, according to a BGB press release.
The meeting began at 1:35pm, and the BSF handed over Assistant Sub-Inspector Imran Hossain and Constable Rohit Dewan to the BGB. They were subsequently handed over to Bangladesh Police at 1:42pm.
ASP Mohammad Shahin of the Debidwar-Brahmanpara Circle also confirmed their return.
According to Brahmanpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Faruk Hossain, the two officers were on night duty in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at around 10:30pm on Thursday.
They were conducting an operation to recover drugs near border pillar No. 2059 in the Ashabari border area of Shashidal Union when suspected drug traders attempted to flee after seeing the police.
The officers pursued them and inadvertently crossed the border into India, the OC said.
