Police have recovered the sack-wrapped body of a 36-year-old man from a rented house in Araihazar, Narayanganj, and detained his wife in connection with the suspected murder.

The body of Nadim Akand, son of Jasim Uddin of Uttar Jangalia in Pakundia, Kishoreganj, was recovered on Friday morning from a tin-shed room rented by Hakim Molla in Dari Satbhandi village under Duptara union.

Nadim, who worked at a mill in the Kalibari area of Duptara, had been missing since October 14.

Police said a foul smell coming from the rented room alerted the landlord’s son, who informed the police. Officers later recovered the body, prepared an inquest report and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

According to preliminary information, Nadim’s wife, Khadija, allegedly had a longstanding extramarital relationship with Hakim. Police suspect the relationship may be linked to the killing.

Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Sabzel Hossain said Khadija had been detained for questioning, while Hakim remained absconding.

Further legal proceedings are under way, the police officer added.
