UAE set to rejoin Yemen war against Houthis

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has agreed to re-engage in Yemen’s civil war by resuming financial support for anti-Houthi forces in southern Yemen, in a deal with Saudi Arabia, according to reports published on October 17–18.

Under the reported agreement, the UAE will resume funding forces including the Giants Brigades, while Saudi Arabia will provide air cover for the anti-Houthi fighters.

The move comes amid growing Houthi advances and intensified drone and missile attacks on Saudi infrastructure.

The agreement could ease tensions between the two Gulf allies, which had diverged over Yemen’s future and their support for rival southern factions.

The UAE withdrew its funding and operations in Yemen in January, while Saudi Arabia continued backing Yemen’s internationally recognised government.

The renewed cooperation comes as fighting escalates across Yemen, raising concerns about further instability and worsening humanitarian conditions.

Neither Saudi Arabia nor the UAE had publicly confirmed the reported agreement in the cited reports.
