Security has been tightened around Bollywood personalities, including actors Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, a day after three men allegedly opened fire at actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai.
An additional police vehicle has been deployed outside Salman Khan’s residence, while patrolling has been intensified near Aamir Khan’s home, a senior police officer said.
Salman Khan and filmmaker Rohit Shetty already had security arrangements in place. A police vehicle from the local police station will now maintain a continuous watch near their residences, the officer added.
Tiger Shroff has also been provided with police protection.
Police are investigating claims that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was behind Sunday’s shooting at Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu area.
The three men suspected of firing five rounds at Shroff’s car on Sunday evening were arrested from a train in Kota, Rajasthan, on Monday following a tip-off from Mumbai Police.
According to police, the suspects fled Mumbai after the shooting and allegedly planned to travel to Delhi before heading to Nepal.
Newly surfaced CCTV footage purportedly shows two of the suspects rushing to board the Pune-Jaipur Express at Surat railway station in Gujarat, around 275km from Mumbai, hours after the attack.
A Railway Police officer said the suspects travelled by taxi to Surat before boarding the train for Jaipur at around 1:30am on Monday.
Abhay Soni, superintendent of police in the Western Railway’s Vadodara division, said the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force in Gujarat helped trace the suspects in coordination with Mumbai Police.
Investigators suspect the men had visited the site of the shooting a week earlier, on October 11, according to CCTV footage and call data records cited by police.
An officer told media that the suspects may have planned the attack that day but left after Shroff failed to show up.
A friend of the actor, who was with him on Sunday, said Shroff regularly plays football at Pushpa Narsee Ground between 5pm and 7pm on Sundays.
