US special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in St Petersburg, Russia, on Wednesday to meet President Vladimir Putin for talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, Reuters reported.
The meeting follows Witkoff’s talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Oslo, Norway, on Tuesday.
The discussions involved Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, along with European and NATO representatives.
The talks focused on key elements of a potential peace framework, including security guarantees for Ukraine, a post-war economic plan and broader European security arrangements.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the meeting with Zelensky as positive, while US President Donald Trump urged Ukraine to reach a settlement with Russia.
Witkoff is expected to brief Putin on the discussions in Oslo and convey proposals aimed at advancing diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
