Prime Minister Tarique Rahman reached Mongla via Dakop in Khulna after inspecting the Sundarbans on Thursday. He arrived at BNS Mongla at 1pm.

According to his itinerary, the prime minister is scheduled to inspect Mongla Port’s jetty and the proposed economic zone of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA).

Earlier, the helicopter carrying Tarique Rahman landed at the Nalian Secondary School playground in Dakop upazila at around 10:30am. At around 10am, he observed Hiron Point and other areas of the Sundarbans from the air.

He later travelled by waterway from Nalian to Mongla.

After a lunch break, the prime minister is scheduled to attend a meeting at the wardroom conference hall.

His itinerary includes an inspection of Mongla Port’s jetty at 3pm, followed by departure for the proposed BEZA economic zone at 3:15pm. He is scheduled to visit the economic zone at 3:30pm.

Earlier in the morning, Tarique Rahman left his residence by road for Tejgaon Airport at 8:30am. He arrived at the airport at 9am and departed by helicopter for the Sundarbans.

The prime minister is scheduled to return to Dhaka later in the day after completing his official engagements.

The visit focuses on the natural environment of the Sundarbans, port operations and the economic potential of Bangladesh’s southwestern region.

Local residents and businesspeople expect the visit to help accelerate development, attract investment and create employment opportunities, particularly through efforts to expand Mongla Port’s capacity and develop the proposed economic zone and an LNG terminal.
