Bangladesh’s drive towards digital transformation received a fresh boost as a delegation of business representatives visited the manufacturing facility of a leading Chinese biometric security technology company to explore advanced time and attendance, access control and identity management solutions, opening the door to technology transfer and long-term business cooperation.
The visit followed an initial meeting between the two sides at the Canton Fair, where the Bangladeshi delegation expressed strong interest in the company’s biometric product portfolio and technological capabilities.
The three-member delegation was led by Managing Director of ICC Teleservices Ltd, Saiful Islam Siddique, who held discussions with the Chinese company’s senior management on introducing next-generation biometric solutions to Bangladesh in support of the government’s Smart Bangladesh initiative.
During the visit, the delegation toured the company’s research and development facilities, production lines and product showroom, where engineers demonstrated a range of biometric attendance, access control and workforce management systems.
Officials of the Chinese company said, Bangladesh is emerging as one of South Asia’s most promising markets for intelligent security and workforce management solutions as businesses, financial institutions and government agencies increasingly replace manual attendance registers and conventional card-based systems with biometric technologies.
They said demand is growing rapidly across commercial buildings, industrial parks, banks, educational institutions and public sector organisations for integrated solutions capable of improving security, operational efficiency and data management.
While fingerprint recognition remains popular because of its affordability and proven reliability, company officials said facial recognition and multimodal biometric authentication are becoming the preferred choice for organisations seeking higher levels of security, convenience and automation.
During a technical session, the Chinese company showcased its more than 20 years of experience in biometric research and manufacturing, highlighting its proprietary recognition algorithms, open Software Development Kits (SDKs), Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and comprehensive Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) and Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) capabilities.
The Bangladeshi delegation shared insights into the country’s evolving digital landscape, emphasising growing demand for cost-effective and reliable security systems capable of operating under challenging environmental conditions while supporting both Bangla and English interfaces and seamless integration with existing enterprise management platforms.
Discussions also focused on adapting the company’s technologies to Bangladesh’s local requirements through customised software, localisation and integrated solutions for both public and private sector organisations.
The visitors conducted hands-on testing of several flagship products, including the FR05 multimodal biometric terminal, which combines facial recognition, fingerprint authentication and NFC technology in a single device.
The delegation praised the system’s recognition accuracy, rapid response time and ease of use, noting that its multiple authentication options make it suitable for a wide range of workplaces and institutions.
Special attention was given to the company’s palm vein recognition technology, which authenticates users by scanning subcutaneous vein patterns using near-infrared imaging.
According to the Chinese company, the technology offers significantly enhanced security because vein patterns are virtually impossible to duplicate and remain unaffected by wet, dirty or damaged fingers, making it particularly suitable for Bangladesh’s hot and humid climate.
The delegation also evaluated facial recognition terminals equipped with advanced liveness detection technology capable of preventing identity fraud through photographs or video recordings while ensuring rapid, contactless access and automatic attendance recording.
Company engineers further demonstrated integrated access control gate systems that seamlessly connect with biometric terminals to create an all-in-one solution where authorised entry automatically records attendance.
Considering Bangladesh’s climatic conditions and occasional power and network disruptions, the delegation closely examined the products’ environmental resilience, including their water and dust resistance, offline operating capability and performance across varying temperatures.
The company also demonstrated its workforce management platform, which integrates attendance monitoring, shift scheduling, access control and real-time reporting through a unified dashboard.
The software automatically records attendance irregularities, including late arrivals, early departures and absences, while supporting multi-shift scheduling, departmental management and blacklist functions to prevent unauthorised access.
Following the technical demonstrations, the Bangladeshi delegation placed an initial order for several biometric products for local project implementation and demonstration.
The visit also resulted in a cooperation agreement between ICC Teleservices Ltd and the Chinese biometric technology company, paving the way for future collaboration in product customisation, technology transfer, local technical support and business development.
ICC Group Managing Director Saiful Islam Siddique told Sarabangla the partnership would play an important role in strengthening Bangladesh’s digital transformation.
“This partnership will facilitate technology transfer and support the Smart Bangladesh initiative by introducing advanced biometric identity management solutions across law enforcement, election management, banking, telecommunications, education and various citizen service sectors,” he said.
He also praised the company’s technological capabilities, particularly the speed, accuracy and flexibility of its biometric solutions, describing them as well suited to Bangladesh’s growing digital infrastructure.
The Chinese company described Bangladesh as one of its priority markets in South Asia and expressed confidence that the partnership would accelerate the adoption of intelligent biometric security solutions in the country.
Officials said the visit strengthened mutual trust and laid the foundation for long-term cooperation in Bangladesh’s rapidly expanding smart security, digital identity and workforce management sectors.
