Import and export activities between Bangladesh and India through the Hili land port in Dinajpur resumed on Saturday after an eight-day suspension for Durga Puja and weekly holidays.

Operations at the port returned to normal at around 12:15pm on October 24.

Shahinur Islam Mondal, general secretary of the Hili Customs C&F Agents Association, confirmed the development.

He said import and export activities had remained suspended since October 16 on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja. Operations resumed at 12:15pm on Saturday after the eight-day closure.

Following the reopening, cargo trucks carrying goods from India began entering the port. The goods are being unloaded and transferred to local trucks for distribution to different parts of Bangladesh, Mondal said.

The resumption of trade has restored normal activity at the port.

Meanwhile, passenger movement through the Hili Immigration Checkpost remained normal throughout the suspension of cargo trade.

Hili Immigration Checkpost Officer-in-Charge Zakaria said the movement of passport-holding passengers between the two countries had continued uninterrupted, including on Saturday.
