A hospital in Kunming, southwest China, has launched a special green channel to help Bangladeshi patients access advanced eye treatment, offering priority appointments, interpretation services and post-treatment follow-up.
The initiative was inaugurated at Kunming Huaxia Eye Hospital on Saturday, with Bangladesh Consul General in Kunming Shahnaz Ranu unveiling a plaque marking its launch, according to a press release.
She also inaugurated the Huaxia Ophthalmology International Forum 2026. First Secretary (Commercial) of the Bangladesh Consulate General Ridwanur Rahman and Huaxia Eye Hospital Vice President Zhang Zhiyong attended the programme.
Under the arrangement, Bangladeshi patients can receive medical consultations and have their medical records reviewed before travelling to China for treatment. Upon arrival, they will receive priority appointments and assistance through a dedicated international service desk.
The service will also provide interpretation support to overcome language barriers and arrange follow-up consultations after patients return to Bangladesh.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Shahnaz Ranu highlighted Bangladesh’s progress in public healthcare and the achievements of its eye care institutions.
“Ensuring quality and safe medical care, maintaining transparency in treatment costs and upholding patients’ dignity are the key expectations of the Bangladesh Consulate General,” she said.
She urged the hospital authorities to help expand access to eye treatment in China while contributing to the development of Bangladesh’s domestic ophthalmic care capacity.
The consul general particularly emphasised training for Bangladeshi eye specialists and nurses, the introduction of teleconsultation services and partnerships with eye care institutions in Bangladesh.
Such cooperation could strengthen local capacity to provide advanced eye treatment and reduce the need for patients to travel abroad, she noted.
The green channel is expected to establish a coordinated support system for Bangladeshi patients, covering pre-travel consultations, hospital appointments and post-treatment care.
The initiative also opens up opportunities for professional training and institutional cooperation between Bangladesh and China in ophthalmology.
