The body of an eight-year-old boy was recovered from the Padma River in Daulatdia, Goalanda upazila, Rajbari, around 22 hours after he went missing while bathing with friends.

A team of Fire Service divers recovered the body from the area near ferry terminal No. 7 around 11am on Saturday (October 24).

The deceased, Nur Amin, was the son of Rezaul Karim Fakir of Bahirchar village in Daulatdia Union.

According to Daulatdia River Police and local sources, Nur Amin was swept away by the strong current while bathing with friends on Friday afternoon.

Local residents initially searched for him. Fire Service personnel, river police, regular police and local divers later joined the rescue operation.

The Fire Service suspended the search at around 5:30pm on Friday and resumed it at 9am on Saturday. Two teams from the Daulatdia and Aricha areas took part in the operation before the boy’s body was found.

Daulatdia River Police Officer-in-Charge Trinath Saha said the body was handed over to the family after recovery, as no one had raised any allegations concerning the incident.

Jahidul Islam, team leader of the Aricha unit of Fire Service and Civil Defence, said a seven-member diving team had participated in the operation. Further legal procedures were underway, he added.
