Afghanistan have climbed to seventh place in the latest ICC men’s ODI rankings, overtaking England after winning the tri-series title in Sharjah.
England have dropped two places to eighth, while Sri Lanka have moved up one spot to sixth.
Afghanistan beat Zimbabwe by seven wickets on Friday to lift the tri-series trophy. The victory brought an immediate reward in the rankings, with Afghanistan gaining ground on England.
The latest reshuffle was influenced by two tri-series tournaments held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. England suffered defeats against hosts Pakistan and Sri Lanka, losing to the latter on Thursday despite scoring 429 runs in Rawalpindi.
Sri Lanka’s victory over England helped them improve their ranking, although the points gap among the three teams remains narrow.
Sri Lanka have 95 rating points, Afghanistan 94 and England 93.
Despite losing the final to Afghanistan, Zimbabwe gained two rating points and moved to 11th with 63 points.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, lost two rating points after losing both of their matches in the tri-series. They remain ninth with 81 points.
The top five positions remain unchanged, with India leading the rankings on 115 points. New Zealand are second with 109, followed by South Africa on 104, Pakistan on 103 and Australia on 102.
