FIFA has unveiled a novel revenue-generating initiative for the 2026 FIFA World Cup by offering fans the chance to buy authentic pieces of the final match pitch.
The tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will feature a record 48 teams and 104 matches.
The final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New York.
In addition to ticket sales, FIFA will sell preserved sections of the final pitch for $450 each. Every piece will be encased in premium acrylic with a commemorative display, allowing fans to own a genuine part of World Cup history.
FIFA has specified the dimensions of each piece as 17.5 × 17.5 × 17.7, though it has not disclosed the unit of measurement despite queries from fans.
The commemorative pitch pieces will be shipped after the final, but only to customers in the United States and Europe, a restriction that has sparked criticism among fans elsewhere.
