Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today said the next general election would be held under a caretaker government, citing political consensus on restoring the system.
“The next general election will be held under a caretaker government,” he told a press briefing at the Ministry of Home Affairs following the successful and peaceful celebration of Durga Puja.
Emphasising the government’s position on restoring the caretaker government system, Salahuddin said there was political consensus on holding the next general election under a caretaker administration.
He indicated that the system would be restored and maintained through constitutional amendments in Parliament.
The Home Minister also responded to questions about alleged political coordination between the banned Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami aimed at overthrowing the government. He said the government had already made its position clear on the matter.
