Sadman Islam completed his 10th Test half-century before Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed leg-before-wicket (LBW) in the first Test against the West Indies at Mirpur on Wednesday.
Sadman reached his fifty off 95 balls, hitting five fours. However, Shanto fell to Jomel Warrican in the following over while attempting a sweep shot.
The on-field umpire initially turned down the appeal, but West Indies captain Roston Chase reviewed the decision, and replays showed the ball would have hit the middle and leg stumps.
Shanto scored 16 off 42 balls, leaving Bangladesh at 110 for three.
Bangladesh had finished the first session at 96 for two after the visiting pace attack troubled the hosts with pace and swing before the spinners found turn from the pitch.
Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim was the first to depart, edging a delivery from Jayden Seales outside off stump to Justin Greaves at slip for seven, with Bangladesh losing their first wicket at nine.
Sadman then shared a 59-run partnership with Mominul Haque, Bangladesh’s highest stand so far. Mominul made 28 off 51 balls before attempting to hit a delivery over mid-off, only to find Shamar Joseph.
Sadman remained at the crease, having batted patiently amid challenges from both the pace bowlers and spinners.
