A total of 153 flights from Dhaka have been cancelled or suspended following attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia, affecting 22,636 passengers, according to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport authorities.

Of the affected flights, 76 were direct services and 77 were transit flights, according to data released on Wednesday.

Among the cancelled or suspended direct flights, Biman Bangladesh Airlines accounted for 33, US-Bangla Airlines 10, Saudia 20 and Riyadh Air 13.

Biman has suspended all flights on the Dammam and Riyadh routes until November 4, while US-Bangla has cancelled services on the two routes until October 31.

Both airlines said passengers with urgent travel needs could use Jeddah and Madinah international airports to travel to Saudi Arabia or return to Bangladesh.

IndiGo recorded the highest number of cancelled transit flights, at 30. Other affected services included Emirates (14), Qatar Airways (nine), Air India (eight), flydubai (eight), SalamAir (seven) and EgyptAir (one).

The disruption follows an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10, described in the report as one of the deadliest recent attacks in Saudi Arabia. People of several nationalities, including Bangladeshis, have reportedly been killed or injured.

Houthi rebels have threatened further attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities, describing them as legitimate targets in retaliation for Saudi strikes in Yemen.
