An Arab political alliance in Israel has expressed its willingness to cooperate with the Jewish-led opposition to remove Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from power following the parliamentary election.
Ahmad Tibi, a leader of the predominantly Arab Joint List alliance, said the bloc was extending its hand to the opposition’s “Change Bloc” led by former military chief Gadi Eisenkot.
Tibi said the alliance was prepared to help prevent Netanyahu from forming a government and pave the way for an alternative administration.
The Joint List is seeking to use its parliamentary strength to influence the post-election political landscape.
However, it is not yet clear whether the alliance will formally join an opposition-led government or support it from outside.
The alliance has also called for action on issues affecting Arab citizens, including crime and violence, house demolitions, discrimination and infrastructure development.
The election has left Israel facing a political deadlock, with neither Netanyahu’s ruling bloc nor the opposition securing a clear parliamentary majority.
The support of Arab parties could prove crucial in efforts to form an alternative government.
