Natore BNP has left the decision on whether Natore-4 MP Abdul Aziz will retain his party post to the party’s high command, citing constitutional limitations on the district committee’s authority.
Abdul Aziz is the senior joint convener of Natore district BNP.
The decision was announced by district BNP Member Secretary Asaduzzaman Asad on Friday following an eight-hour emergency meeting.
The meeting discussed allegations surrounding Aziz’s recent controversies, including a video circulated on social media on October 28 and the arrest of his elder son, Nuruzzaman Mintu, in connection with the murder of Chhatra Dal leader Shakil Islam.
The district committee said it lacked the authority under the party constitution to take disciplinary action against a joint convener and unanimously referred the matter to the central leadership.
Meanwhile, police have sought a further seven days of remand for Mintu following the completion of his initial three-day remand.
