Six young women were trafficked from Bangladesh to India after being lured by promises of well-paid jobs. They were later sold to a brothel in Pune, Maharashtra. Police have rescued the six women in a raid. A case has been filed against four members of a human trafficking gang, and two people have been arrested.

The women were rescued during raids on several brothels in the Budhwar Peth area of Pune early on Wednesday (October 28).

According to police, the raids were conducted at several brothels in the area following a tip-off. The six women were rescued from there. During preliminary questioning, they told police that they had been illegally brought to India from Bangladesh about four months ago on the promise of well-paid jobs.

However, after arriving in India, they were not given the jobs they had been promised. Instead, they were taken to Pune and sold to brothel operators for a large sum of money.

A police officer said none of the rescued women had valid passports or identity documents. After being lured with job offers and taken across the border, they were effectively kept under the control of traffickers. They were allegedly forced into sex work.

Following the raid, a case was filed at Faraskhana Police Station against four people on charges of human trafficking and forcing women into prostitution. Police have arrested two of the accused, while the other two remain at large.

Pune’s Budhwar Peth area has long been known as a major destination for human traffickers. There have been previous allegations that women trafficked from Bangladesh were taken to the area. In March this year, Pune City Police rescued four Bangladeshi women from a brothel in the same area. Source: Indian media.
