Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has taken Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, a former adviser to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to its office for questioning.
He was taken from the office of private television channel DBC in the capital’s Mohakhali area on Wednesday (November 4).
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Mohammad Akter Hossain confirmed the development, saying Chowdhury was brought in for questioning over an incident. He clarified that he had neither been arrested nor detained.
DB Additional Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said police rescued Chowdhury from DBC’s office after an attempt to create a mob situation against him. He said investigators were questioning him about why he had visited the office and other related matters.
Meanwhile, detectives also asked DBC News Crime Chief and Senior Reporter Rajib Ghosh to accompany them for a discussion.
Anik said Ghosh had longstanding contacts within different levels of the police through his work covering crime. However, he clarified that there was no confirmation that Ghosh had been detained or taken in for questioning.
