The Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has announced that the 2026 HSC and equivalent examinations will continue as scheduled across most of the country despite adverse weather and flooding.
In a statement issued on Monday, the committee said district commissioners (DCs) have been authorised to take immediate decisions if natural disasters seriously threaten candidates’ safety or make it impossible to conduct examinations in any area.
The committee acknowledged concerns among students, parents and guardians over the ongoing spell of bad weather.
A total of 1,270,583 candidates are sitting the examinations at 2,697 centres nationwide this year.
Only the Chattogram Education Board’s examinations have been postponed until July 16 after heavy rainfall and flooding affected several exam centres and made it difficult for candidates to reach them safely.
The decision was taken based on recommendations from deputy commissioners and upazila executive officers.
The committee said reports from district administrations indicate that examination centres under the other education boards remain suitable for conducting exams, with adequate support from local authorities and law enforcement agencies.
It noted that although adverse weather caused some travel difficulties for candidates at Cumilla Government Women’s College on Monday morning, assistance from the local administration, exam authorities and parents enabled students to reach the centre on time and sit for the examination.
However, the committee assured that students’ safety would remain the top priority, and necessary decisions would be taken immediately if the situation deteriorates in any locality.
