Five missing as trawler sinks off Cox’s Bazar coast

Cox’s Bazar: Five fishermen remained missing after a fishing trawler sank in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Kutubdia in Cox’s Bazar early Monday morning. Seven other crew members were rescued alive.

The incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on Monday (July 13) while the trawler was engaged in deep-sea fishing.

According to Abul Kalam Azad, President of the Kutubdia Fisheries Federation, the fishing trawler FB Fakira Masjid, owned by Nurul Absar of Boroghop South Amjakhali, had departed with 12 fishermen on board. The vessel reportedly capsized and sank during the fishing expedition.

The missing fishermen have been identified as Md. Nasir (18), Md. Karim (20), Ayub Monir (22), Kamal (45), and Nasir Uddin.

Kutubdia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faruk Ahmed said the process of filing a General Diary (GD) regarding the missing fishermen is underway. Local fishermen, along with the relevant authorities, are continuing search and rescue operations to locate those still missing.
