Bangladesh recorded its highest single-day measles death toll of July on Tuesday, with seven fatalities reported in the past 24 hours as the outbreak continued to spread across the country.
According to the latest bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), six people died with suspected measles symptoms, while one laboratory-confirmed measles death was recorded during the 24 hours ending at 8:00 am on Tuesday.
The health authorities also confirmed 122 new measles infections during the reporting period.
The DGHS has been publishing daily measles updates since March 15 to monitor the outbreak.
With the latest figures, the number of confirmed measles deaths this year has risen to 95, while 671 people have died with suspected measles symptoms nationwide.
Among the suspected deaths, Dhaka Division recorded the highest number at 291, followed by Sylhet (93), Rajshahi (89), Mymensingh (63), Chattogram (54), Barishal (43), Khulna (29) and Rangpur (9).
The health directorate said 868 people with suspected measles sought treatment at hospitals across the country over the past 24 hours, of whom 831 required hospital admission.
Division-wise admissions included 319 patients in Dhaka, 195 in Chattogram, 128 in Barishal, 54 in Sylhet, 53 in Mymensingh, 47 in Khulna, 24 in Rajshahi and 11 in Rangpur.
The total number of measles-related hospital admissions this year has reached 96,027, with 92,383 patients discharged after receiving treatment.
According to the DGHS, the cumulative number of suspected measles cases has climbed to 113,244, while laboratory-confirmed infections now stand at 13,735.
Health authorities said they are continuing to monitor the outbreak closely as hospitals across the country receive hundreds of suspected measles patients every day.
